In 2024, they also presented to the public the special project VITROLAB sings CAETANO, which debuted to a full house at the Coro Room of the Teatro Castro Alves in Salvador and plans to tour Brazil and Europe in 2025.
The band is preparing their new album, set to be released in 2025, featuring nationally renowned artists such as Saulo Fernandes, Pedro Pondé, and Luísa Nascim (Luísa e os Alquimistas).
VITROLAB (Salvador/BA) is a band formed by brothers Guga (vocals and guitar) and Marcelo Barbosa (vocals, bass, and programming) and since 2014 has been creating a sound that blends electronic music with guitars and Afro-Brazilian percussion.
With a strong focus on original work, the band has already won the biggest music festival in Bahia (Rádio Educadora Fm) and has a number of singles and 2 albums in their repertoire, one of them being live, recorded in the historic center of Salvador – Pelourinho, both released by the Educadora Fm Label.
VITROLAB has performed at major festivals throughout Brazil: FORMEMUS – Vitória/ES, FIMS – Curitiba/PR, TUM FESTIVAL – Florianópolis/SC, Festival COMA – Brasília/DF, Festival do Sol – Natal/RN, Festival de Verão – Salvador/BA and in 2024 embarked on a tour of Europe, performing at the traditional MiMo Festival in Portugal, sharing the stage with artists such as Marcelo D2, A Cor do Som, and Ilê Aiyê, as well as a show at Casa da Música in Porto and at the Favela Cult Festival in Valladolid, Spain.
VITROLAB CANTA CAETANO debuts at the Choir Room on the spring solstice.
Following the success of the Odara version, the Bahian band Vitrolab debuts a show entirely dedicated to reinterpretations of Caetano Veloso’s works.
Debuting at the Choir Room of the Teatro Castro Alves, right on the spring solstice, on September 21,2024, the show Vitrolab sings Caetano, bringing Caetano’s Bahian essence in
the modern sound language of the Vitrolab electronic beats. The show will have a second
presentation on October 19. Both at 8 pm.
Formed by brothers Guga (vocals and guitar) and Marcelo Barbosa (vocals, bass and
programming) and born in Salvador, in 2014, VITROLAB creates electronic and
contemporary music, blending beats, synthesizers, and electric guitar with traditional rhythms.
It is part of the new generation of artists that is revolutionizing the scene and producing
danceable and thoughtful music, with provocative and poetic lyrics.
The electronic sound developed from the fusion of Afro-Bahian rhythms (pagode and
ijexá) and Latin rhythms, such as ragga and dance hall. This process is the result of several
experimentations in rhythmic fields that emerged and were played in Bahia and its numerous
aesthetic possibilities and dialogue with international music, especially that originating from
the African diaspora.
Since its inception, VITROLAB has presented a strong original work – always with
a compelling discourse – having released singles since 2018, one of which
(MEGALODON) was the winner of the XVI Festival de Música da Rádio Educadora FM,
the largest music festival in Bahia, in the popular vote category.
On the night of the award ceremony, the brothers met Caetano Veloso and presented a version of the timeless ODARA to the idol (a reinterpretation that was already successful in live shows). Shortly afterwards, they received authorization from Warner Chappell (representative of the work) to re-record the song. In 2019, they released the reinterpretation, which went viral on social media (+150k plays on digital platforms).
This song, as well as Tropicália and Fora da Ordem, are present in the band’s danceable repertoire, but for 2024, a side b of Vitrolab is emerging, or rather, a
side c of Caetano. Where the life and work of this great artist who influences a whole generation of musical production in Bahia and Brazil is presented to a seated audience.
Protagonist of the tropicalist movement, which inspires Vitrolab a lot because of the meaning of breaking sound barriers to promote an innovative and integrative aesthetic experience.
