Zabumba Tech is a musical project that connects the ancestral roots of Northeastern Brazil with contemporary forms of experimental music, hip-hop, electronic music, and performance art. With a distinctive, original sound, the band transforms the rhythmic
foundations of baião, xote, and other Northeastern Brazilian traditions into the raw material for new instrumental music experiences, building bridges between tradition and innovation, cultural roots and cyberspace.
Formed by three musician-researchers, the band uses the zabumba—a traditional bass drum central to Northeastern Brazilian music—not merely as an instrument, but as a symbol of the region’s cultural ancestry and the structural foundation of its musical language. The idea behind this work is as poetic as it is philosophical: “Musician Robson Carvalho’s zabumba is like a root, just as Safyra’s voice and Z6’s guitar are.” These are not simply instruments, but living entities—elements of a single musical ecosystem that nourish and sustain one another. Just as the roots of a great tree intertwine underground, exchanging nutrients, the zabumba—with its deep, earthy pulse—the voice, carrying words and emotions like a breath of life, and the guitar, connecting heaven and earth through its chords, form a single, organic system. Within this musical project, there is no hierarchy. Each element is root, trunk, and fruit all at once.
With its original live show, RAIZ TECH, Zabumba Tech offers an approximately 60-minute immersive sensory experience, inviting audiences to reconnect with their cultural roots while imagining new futures for Brazilian music.
