Nil Lus singer, songwriter and writer was born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
He has a degree in Physical Education from UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais) and in Business Administration and Economics from FUMEC (University Foundation of Mineira de Educação e Cultura). Former athlete of the Brazilian National Handball Team (National and South American Champion).
Nil Lus has composed more than 1200 songs (lyrics and music). He has traveled in concerts throughout America, Europe and Asia. In Portugal he founded the project about Lusophony “Sons Da Fala” together with Sérgio Godinho, Vitorino, Tito Paris and others. He has recorded 15 discs.
As a writer, Nil Lus wrote his first book of poems and his first song at the age of ten (“Pássaro De Fogo”). At 15 he was awarded at the 1st National Fritz Teixeira Salles Poetry Contest with the theme “Poemia”, receiving honorable mention. In 2010 he launched the novel: THE JOURNEY TO THE OTHER SIDE accompanied by a soundtrack originally composed for the book, which is now in its first edition in Brazil. In 2012 he launched the book of aphorisms DADIVANT, a calendar of reflections.
At this moment, Nil Lus is preparing his next literary work: volume I of a tetralogy – an esoteric thriller that will also be accompanied by an original instrumental soundtrack. Scheduled release date: late 2023.
In 2023- 2024 Nil Lus is preparing a world tour celebrating 40 years of career.
In 2022 Nil Lus received the trophy Abebê in Brazil in the state of Pernambuco – this award is considered the Oscar of afro-descendent music in Brazil.
In January 2020 Nil Lus released her latest album: COMO CAÍDO DEL CIELO – produced by Celso Rangel sung in Portuguese and Spanish.
In October 2019 Nil Lus received the award in London at the Film and Arts Festival as one of the best artists of Brazilian World Music in the BBC space.
In July 2018 Nil Lus receives the Berimbau de Ouro award in Bahia.
Also in 2018 Nil Lus is nominated for the Latin Grammy in the category of revelation and best album: TODOS OS TONS – produced by Victor Flowers (former American producer of Alicia Keys and Jay Z) and Celso Rangel.
Nil Lus for the second time returns in July 2016 to the emblematic 50th anniversary Montreux Jazz Festival.
In 2010 Nil Lus received the laureate Le Mérite Et Devouement Français from the French Senate for outstanding services as a singer, songwriter and writer.
In 2008 Nil Lus was appointed Consul of the World Poets by the International Society of World Poets based in Chile. In the same year, Nil Lus created and founded the Nil Lus Institute which sponsors 350 underprivileged children in Brazil under the slogan: “Nobody Separates the Dream from the Dreamer”.
In April 2007 Nil Lus received the Médaille d`Argent title by the French Academy of Sciences, Letters and Culture in Paris. The same award already received by some laureates as the Queen of Belgium, Queen Sikit of Thailand, Marie Curie, Peter Bloch, Jean Carriére, Paul Belmondo, Milton Nascimento, Jose Wilker, Milton Gonçalves, Alcione and Seu Jorge.
Nil Lus participated for the first time at the 38th Montreux Jazz Festival – July 2004 recording a live album for 5000 thousand people.
