Kleiton & Kledir
With an innovative musical style and a charming gaúcho accent, Kleiton & Kledir have left an indelible mark on Brazilian culture, becoming a primary reference for anyone seeking to understand contemporary Brazilian popular music. With a career spanning over 20 albums in Portuguese and one in Spanish, their success has taken them to stages across the US, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America, with recording sessions in global hubs like Los Angeles, New York, Lisbon, Paris, Miami, and Buenos Aires.
Their compositions have been covered by the biggest names in Brazilian and international music. Born in Pelotas (RS), the two brothers began their musical studies at a very young age. In the 70s, they moved to Porto Alegre to study Composition and Conducting, as well as Engineering. Kleiton later pursued postgraduate studies in France and earned a Master’s degree in Electroacoustic Music in Rio de Janeiro. During their college years, they formed the band “Almôndegas” with three friends—a group that released four albums and became a milestone in the musical history of Rio Grande do Sul.
In 1980, the duo K&K released their debut album. Success was instantaneous, drawing massive crowds all over Brazil. Their songs have been recorded by icons such as Caetano Veloso, Simone, Adriana Calcanhotto, and Nara Leão, as well as international artists like Argentina’s Mercedes Sosa and Fito Paez, Portugal’s Eugenia Mello e Castro, and Japan’s Chie.
Kleiton & Kledir effectively introduced the “new gaúcho popular music” to the rest of Brazil. They immortalized a unique accent and a singular way of speaking and singing, introducing regional slang like “deu pra ti” (I’m done / that’s it for me) and “tri legal” (cool / awesome) to the national lexicon. They became symbols of the contemporary man from Southern Brazil, leading the State Government to name them “Cultural Ambassadors of RS.” Throughout their career, they have received numerous accolades, including Best Album at the “Brazilian Music Awards.” They were even honored by the Caprichosos de Pilares samba school, which based its Rio de Janeiro Carnival parade on their hit song “Deu pra ti.”
After years of success with adult audiences, the duo turned to children’s music with the album “Par ou Ímpar.” Following unanimous critical acclaim, they collaborated with the circus-theater group THOLL to create a stunning multimedia spectacle featuring actress Fabiana Karla. The show was recorded live, released on DVD, and named “Best Children’s Album of the Year.”
Their most recent project, “COM TODAS AS LETRAS” (With Every Letter), is an innovative fusion of literature and popular music. It began with “Lixo e Purpurina,” an unreleased partnership between the brothers and the late writer Caio Fernando Abreu. This served as the catalyst for collaborations with literary greats who, for the first time, ventured into songwriting: Luis Fernando Verissimo, Martha Medeiros, Fabrício Carpinejar, and others. Curated by Luís Augusto Fischer, the project expanded into a CD, LP, documentary, art book, and an international exhibition featuring calligraphic art inspired by the lyrics.
Currently, K&K are touring with the show “CASA RAMIL,” which brings together the musical Ramil family for the first time: Kleiton, Kledir, Vitor, Ian, Gutcha, Thiago, and João. The performance captures the relaxed spirit of the Ramil household—intimate family gatherings filled with music and joy.
KLEITON & KLEDIR: THE ARCHITECTS OF MODERN SOUTHERN BRAZILIAN SOUND
With over 40 years of career and more than 20 albums recorded, brothers Kleiton & Kledir are the definitive cultural ambassadors of Southern Brazil. They didn’t just create music; they revolutionized the national scene by introducing the “gaúcho” identity to the heart of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music). Famous for hits like “Deu Pra Ti,” they turned regional slang into national anthems.
From collaborations with icons like Mercedes Sosa and Caetano Veloso to their award-winning children’s project “Par ou Ímpar,” K&K continue to innovate. Their latest acclaimed project, “Com Todas as Letras,” bridges the gap between literature and song, featuring lyrics by world-renowned writers. Currently, they are touring with “Casa Ramil,” a unique show that brings the intimacy of their family home to the global stage.
