Jetro da Silva is a highly accomplished and internationally recognized musician and music educator. With a career spanning over several decades, he has established himself as a Grammy-nominated artist and an esteemed figure in the music industry.
Born in Rio de Janeiro on February 28th, 1967, Jetro da Silva’s musical journey began at the age of 12. Recognizing his passion and dedication to music, he made a firm decision to pursue it as a lifelong vocation at the age of 14. Determined to receive the finest education available, he diligently sought out the top music schools in Rio de Janeiro and was admitted to the prestigious Villa Lobos School of Music. After honing his skills there for two years, his exceptional talent earned him a full scholarship to the School of Music at UFFJ.
Remarkably, by the age of 16, Jetro da Silva became the sole provider for his family, supporting them through his performances alongside renowned musicians and his involvement with his church in Rio de Janeiro. His remarkable abilities as a keyboardist attracted the attention of Brazilian artists, leading him to tour extensively with them. Seeking further musical growth and development, Jetro relocated to Boston, where he enrolled at the acclaimed Berklee College of Music, specializing in Music Production and Engineering. Several years later, he earned a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from the esteemed Andover Newton Theological School. His insatiable curiosity and commitment to learning led him to pursue Anglican Studies, culminating in the attainment of his graduate diploma. In May of 2015, Jetro da Silva successfully completed his Doctorate in Ministry.
Jetro da Silva’s illustrious career includes a distinguished 13-year tenure at Berklee College of Music, where he served as Assistant Chair and Professor of the Piano and Ensemble Department. Additionally, he held the role of Artist Relations Manager at Roland Corporation before joining the esteemed California College of Music as a Piano Instructor. As a prolific author and researcher, Da Silva has published two significant works, “Music and the People of God: Sacred Music and its Uses through the Centuries” and “The Purpose, Power and Politics of Brazilian Christian Liturgy: A Theological and Missiological Analysis of the Life and Music of Father Jose Mauricio Nunes Garcia (1767-1830).”
Furthermore, Jetro da Silva’s talent, professionalism, and impeccable reputation have solidified his position as one of the most sought-after keyboardists in the industry. His vast experience as a keyboardist, producer, and arranger has granted him the privilege of collaborating with an impressive roster of esteemed artists, including Whitney Houston, with whom he embarked on world tours for a decade. His musical contributions extend to working with luminaries such as Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, BB King, Jamie Foxx, Celine Dion, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Emilio Santiago, Walter Beasley, Kevin Toney, Earth Wind and Fire, Pastor Andrae Crouch, The Pointer Sisters, Sheila E., Namie Amuro, Bonnie Raitt, Luther Vandross, Kem, Patti Austin, Mary Mary, and numerous others.
